Ahoskie, NC — The Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC) is teaming up with the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center Rural Health Team to sponsor the “Honoring Our Veterans: Lunch and Learn” series in the month of May.

The event, held on each Friday throughout May from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the RCCHC Ahoskie Comprehensive Care Center, will be designed to address how RCCHC and other local providers can address the needs of veterans in the Roanoke-Chowan community. The event is open to all health care providers, social workers, nurses, and caregivers in the community.

The event is a clear effort to work together through partnerships to drive forward the mission of RCCHC to reduce health disparities in the region.

“We have worked closely with the VA Department of Veterans Affairs Rural Health Initiative over the past several years and view the Lunch and Learn events as a way we all can learn more about ways we can help our military heroes,” said JoAnne Powell, Special Projects Manager at RCCHC.

The first of these events will take place on Friday, May 2, and was titled “Navigating the Department of Veteran Affairs”. The second, to be held on May 9, is titled “Military Environmental and Occupational Exposure,” followed by “Caring for Elderly Veterans” on May 16, “Veteran Affairs Billing” on May 23, and “Dual Care for Veterans” on May 30.

RCCHC is requesting that all interested parties RSVP as soon as possible. For the official RSVP form, and to learn more about the “Honoring Our Veterans: Lunch and Learn” series, contact JoAnne Powell at (252) 209-0237 ext.7131.

The Ahoskie Comprehensive Care Center is located at 120 Health Center Drive, which is adjacent to Bearfield Elementary School. Those coming from Ahoskie can get there by traveling to the Bojangles and taking a left at the stoplight. RCCHC is approximately ¼ mile down on the left.

RCCHC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive health care that reduces health disparities for the people of the Roanoke-Chowan area. RCCHC is one of 1,124 other Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) with almost 8,139 primary care service sites located in urban and rural under-served areas throughout the United States and its territories. There are 30 FQHCs in NC, representing 150 clinical sites. Community Health Centers provide a range of primary care medical, dental, behavioral health and enabling services to help improve the health status and decrease health disparities of the medically under-served people in our country. Community Health Centers address the unique and significant barriers to affordable and accessible health care services for our community.
