Please call your RCCHC clinic for COVID-19 Vaccine Information.

Fresh produce raised by students right here in the Roanoke Chowan area will be available by next summer thanks to a grant opportunity.   Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC) and its partners received a Creating New Economies Fund (CNEF) grant of $8,500 from The Conservation Fund's Resourceful Communities program.  This grant will support the implementation of a Farm to School to Healthcare initiative within Hertford County. School gardens will be built utilizing sustainable gardening practices at area schools. Produce will then be sold at a pop-up market located at Ahoskie Comprehensive Care with a discount offered for low-income residents.

Congressman G.K. Butterfield was in Washington County Wednesday afternoon to cut the ribbon on the new Creswell Primary Care.   The clinic which opened in April off Highway 64 in the former Washington County Medical Clinic building in Creswell eliminates the need for people to travel out of the area for healthcare.  "People were traveling nearly an hour just to see a doctor," said Cole Phelps, Chairman Washington County Commissioners.   "Today is a dream come true for our residents."

Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center's patient based Board of Directors, Congressman G.K. Butterfield, and other community representatives plan to cut the ribbon June 1  at 2pm on the new Creswell Primary Care in Creswell.  The clinic opened April 11 off Highway 64 in the former Washington County Medical Clinic building.  "This grand opening celebration is our way of saying 'thank you' to the many people who helped make this possible," said Kim Schwartz, CEO, Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center.  "We've had tremendous community support."

May is Brain Tumor Awareness month and we are Going Gray in May to show our support and to raise money to support brain tumor research.  Local resident Henry Hodges, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in June of 2012.  He is now three years out of treatment.  Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center staff members will be participating in a walk this week to raise additional awareness about childhood cancer and brain tumors in order to support research that will one day find a cure for these devastating diseases.

Did you know that your zip code can be a predictor of your health? So can your place of birth, where you work and play, your income and education, and a host of other factors – in addition to the choices you make each day about what to eat, when to work out and whether or not to see a doctor. These factors, recognized by public health professionals as “social determinants of health,” are linked to inequities in health and health care (health disparities) among racial and ethnic minorities in America.
