Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC) will officially break ground on a major medical clinic expansion Tuesday, August 9 in Colerain, NC. RCCHC was awarded $1 million in capital funding by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) last year to substantially enhance its Colerain Primary Care Center.
Colerain Primary Care, located at 109 W River Street in Colerain, will undergo building expansion that will add 3,376 square feet and include an in-house pharmacy, four additional exam rooms, expand the community nutrition site, and a designated space for behavioral health and nutrition/patient education. The project is certain to better address the needs of the area population and enhance the care Colerain Primary Care is already providing area citizens.
The improvements will also stretch outdoors, adding a large number of parking spaces, more handicapped parking spaces, and a new entrance with an automatic door opener for ambulance access. In addition, more medical providers will be brought on staff to meet the health demands of the area's population.
Colerain Primary Care will remain open during the improvements. The clinic is currently open Monday-Friday (Monday 8:00am-7:00pm, Tuesday 8:00am-5:00pm, Wednesday 8:00am-7:00pm, Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm, Friday 8:00am-4:00pm). Colerain Primary Care is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, but RCCHC operates on Saturday at Ahoskie Comprehensive Care from 8:00am-12:00 noon for all patients.
RCCHC has four primary care locations, including Colerain Primary Care, Murfreesboro Primary Care, Ahoskie Comprehensive Care, and Creswell Primary Care.
RCCHC, an FQHC since May, 2005, provides comprehensive primary care and pediatric services with locations in Ahoskie and Murfreesboro (Hertford County), Colerain (Bertie County) and Creswell (Washington County) North Carolina. As a designated community health and migrant center, RCCHC's mission is to provide comprehensive care that reduces health disparities for the Roanoke Chowan area. Pediatric services are offered at RCCHC's Ahoskie clinic Monday through Friday, and the Hertford County Student Wellness Center which operates during the school year and allows students to seek medical treatment without having to leave campus, reducing absenteeism and in turn keeping kids in the classroom giving them a greater chance to successfully complete curriculum requirements.
Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center is a not-for-profit organization, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, committed to providing quality service and comprehensive healthcare, regardless of the ability to pay, to meet the needs of the rural community, including the uninsured. RCCHC offers a sliding fee scale for their patients, as well as medication assistance programs. Evening clinics are available at all locations.
